Samarskite – a black lustrous 2.5 x 2 x 2 cm massive sub-metallic specimen that may be associated with black columbite. It is mostly samarskite as this specimen registers 54,000 cpm on a Ludlum Model 3 with 44-9 probe (way too hot for columbite). From the Spruce Mine area, Mitchell County, North Carolina and is accompanied with a D.E. Russel label as well.
